What's checked in an MOT

The MOT is the legal annual test set by the DVSA. It covers the things that keep the car safe and road-legal, including lights, brakes, steering, suspension, tyres and wheels, seatbelts, the windscreen, wipers and washers, the exhaust and emissions, the body and structure, and the registration plates and VIN.

It isn't a service: it doesn't look at the engine, clutch or gearbox condition. Booking a service at the same time catches those too.

If your car fails

You get the result and the reasons in plain English. We tell you what must be fixed, what's advisory, and the cost before any repair starts, and nothing goes ahead without your approval. Retests are subject to DVSA timeframes.

When to book
